Shift Manager - Operations

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Shift Manager assists the Head of Operations with the overall responsibility of the entire manufacturing process for a continuous shift operation. Two-year assignment to support the vertical startup of the new Pleasant Prairie facility. Lead newly hired Shift Supervisors ensuring their technical success with a focus on quality, productivity, budgetary and environmental, health and safety compliance. This role is a champion for our people centric, continuous improvement culture. In addition, the Shift Manager will collaborate with support functions to identify and resolve unplanned inefficiencies, events, quality, safety, cost, and other losses attributed to the area, using problem solving techniques and a continuous improvement mindset.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the Production and Packaging Teams:

Lead, mentor and guide the newly hired US Shift Supervisors, ensuring not only their technical success, but in understanding the HARIBO Culture and our people centric ways.

Transfer knowledge to the incoming US Shift Supervisors and associates ensuring capability building to support meeting our start-up plans through sustainable processes and production capabilities.

Assists in the creation and sustainability of the production and packaging areas people centric culture, as well as bringing the culture to life on a daily basis.

Help develop assigned teams by providing developmental, coaching, and mentoring opportunities. Hiring and training new associates to ensure their success.

Assist in the development and deployment of strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.

Provide leadership to the area Shift Supervisors, ensuring teamwork, positive employee relations and a continuous improvement culture throughout the area.

Adhere to HARIBO’s quality standards to ensure product quality and Food Safety by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and HARIBO specifications.

Adhere to HARIBO’s safety standards to ensure the safety of our people and our equipment, following OSHA and all other legal requirements.

Take necessary corrective actions and inform the line manager in times of deviation from our quality and efficiency standards, ensuring integrity and transparency in our operations.

Builds relationships with teammates and colleagues so that coaching efforts are received in a positive and developmental manner.

Conducts inspection of and routine preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

Communicates pertinent information to next shift.

Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure assigned areas and quality of products meets specifications.

Reviews assigned area and operating reports in SAP environment and resolves operational, manufacturing problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

Develops or revises standard operational and working practices by collecting associate input and building a consensus for compliance.

Ensures compliance with standards, processes, procedures, and policies, holding others accountable to HARIBO’s high standards.

Ability to manage complex employee relations.

Coach others in their ability to resolve problems and triage issues, escalating to the Head of Operations as necessary.

Facilitate problem solving opportunities, coach to root cause analysis and educate others in advanced manufacturing practices.

Facilitate high level people situations, in partnership with the Human Resources Team.

Ability to handle stress and to interact with others to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts.

Maintain a clean work area and follows sanitation standards set forth by Quality Department, HACCP, GMP, FSSC and other standards.

Takes on duties of the shift supervisor in case of absence and leave

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in business, Food Technology, or related degree is required.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a HARIBO manufacturing environment required.

5 years supervisory experience required; previous management experience preferred.

Six Sigma White Belt Certification preferred.

TPM and/or Lean manufacturing experience is preferred.

Excellent Communication Skills (Verbal and Written).

Strong decision- making, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.

Must be able to communicate effectively with Plant Manager, Project Managers, Product

Development, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Planners.

Ability to lead, develop, direct, and hold others accountable to HARIBO’s high standards.

2 years’ experience in SAP preferred.

Requires a general knowledge of company products and procedures.

Requires a working knowledge of accounting methods and cost control procedures.

Ability to train others and coach to compliance.
