HARIBO of America Associates help give meals to 27,000 people in need
According to the World Food Programme, one in nine people around the world currently suffer from hunger or malnutrition. HARIBO Associates decided to give back to those who need it most.
On November 15, HARIBO of America Associates volunteered to give back to our local community in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) and Protiviti for the 6th Annual I on Hungerevent.
Ten of our Associates, along with 160 volunteers from 11 other companies, packed 27,000 pounds of food together at the GCFD for those in need in the Chicago area. The GCFD is a nonprofit organization that fights hunger throughout Cook County in Illinois. GCFD distributes donated and purchased food throughout a network of 700 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and community programs in Chicago, serving more than 800,000 children and adults every year.
Jennifer Drake, Senior Customer Success Specialist; Emmanuel Green, IT Administrator; Sarah Heth, Transportation Analyst; Jaclyn Heuser, Accounts Receivables Specialist; Lana Jones, Brand Manager; Tim Lamanno, Director of Sales, Convenience Stores; Tony Luo, Accounts Receivables Specialist; Dustin Perry, Customer Marketing Manager; Elisa Phillips, Human Resources Associate; and Tina Vo, Customer Success Specialist, had the chance to meet the people who work to end hunger every day.
“There are people in need of food all over Chicago, and even if packing some meals only makes a small difference to us, it could mean everything to the man, woman or child who receives it," said Jaclyn. “I'm thankful that HARIBO gives us the opportunity to do good in the communities where we live and work and think of those who need us most."
Protiviti's i on Hunger program allows us to give back to those in need, deepen relationships in our community and create exceptional experiences for our Associates. Since 2014, i on Hunger has delivered more than one million meals to the hungry on more than 30 countries.
“No one wants to believe that people in our local community go to bed hungry," said Elisa. “Today we did our small part to fight that and make sure our neighbors had a meal…but we can always do more and I'm looking forward to our next volunteer opportunity."
